SYTYCD Recap

Due to the World Series, "So You Think You Can Dance" only aired tonight (the same went for last Tuesday), which means the judges eliminated two dancers rather than America voting, and the the judges eliminating two dancers from the three couples with the least amount of votes in the elimination episode (which would typically air on Wednesday nights.)

The best performances of the night (to me as well as the judges) were Legacy's and Kathryn's contemporary piece, Ryan and Ellenore's Argentine Tango, and Karen And Kevin's hip-hop. (Videos will be posted in a day or two when they're up on Youtube.)

The first Bollywood dance, performed by Molly and Nathan, of the season was also one of the best. It always amazes me how well the couples who end up with this genre perform it, and tonight was no exception (though no couple has topped the premiere of Bollywood on the show - Joshua's and Katee's performance from season 4.) The couple's performance was elegant and sharp...and brought a maturity to 18-year-old Molly, according to the judges.

The worst? For me, it was Channing's and Philip's Samba. The dancers struggled, and it showed. Channing's eyes gave away that struggle through out the performance. The lifts and tricks were slow and sloppy. Mary Murphy blamed Philip for not being there for Channing, while Nigel Lythgoe blamed their bad chemistry (it was obvious Channing didn't trust him.) I think they were both to blame, but I agree more with Lythgoe's chemistry comment than Murphy's claim that Philip brought Channing down.

Philip and Bianca (who performed a Broadway piece with Victor) ended up being eliminated. Despite their decision, the judges were upset to see two of the three tap dancers go.

In other SYTYCD news, Billy Bell, who had to leave the Top 20 due to illness (see Quick Update: SYTYCD) will not be allowed straight to the Top 20 next season. However, he has been invited straight to the Top 100 during Vegas Week. And I don't think he'll have any trouble making it to the Top 20.

Look for videos of the best performances of the night in the next few days.
